IEC 60815: Guide For The Selection And Dimensioning Of High Durability Porcelain Insulators - PDF Ve

This standard UNE IEC/TS 60815-1:2013 EX Selection and dimensioning of high-voltage insulators intended for use in polluted conditions - Part 1: Definitions, information and general principles is classified in these ICS categories:

IEC/TS 80815-1:2008(E) applies to the selection of insulators, and the determination of their relevant dimensions, to be used in high-voltage systems with respect to pollution. This part of IEC 60815 gives general definitions, methods for the evaluation of pollution site severity (SPS) and outlines the principles to arrive at an informed judgement on the probable behaviour of a given insulator in certain pollution environments. This first edition of IEC/TS 60815-1 cancels and replaces IEC/TR 60815, which was issued as a technical report in 1986.

As pointed out in the DEIS review, one consequence of this engineering achievement of reducing maximum switching surge overvoltage was that the everyday line-voltage stress per meter of dry arc distance increased from 70 kVrms line-to-ground per meter to levels above 100 kV/m. With the same insulator profiles, there was a similar increase in the operating voltage stress across leakage distance, with corresponding degradation in contamination flashover performance. For these reasons, integrated insulator selection and tower head geometry dimensioning evaluates three main aspects of reliability:

IEC/TS 60815-3:2008(E) is applicable to the selection of polymer insulators for a.c. systems, and the determination of their relevant dimensions, to be used in high voltage systems with respect to pollution. This part of IEC/TS 60815 gives specific guidelines and principles to arrive at an informed judgement on the probable behaviour of a given insulator in certain pollution environments.

The revision of IEC 60815:1986 to take into account currentexperience, knowledge and practicerelated to polluted insulators ingeneral, and specifically to include polymer insulators and tocoverd.c. systems, requires subdivision of the guide into thefollowing five parts:

As work on part 1 has progressed, it has become evident that therequirements for evaluation andmeasurement of site severity were amajor concern. The content of part 1 now principally coverssitepollution severity determination, description of the flashovermechanism, approaches forselection and dimensioning and testingtechniques. The first draft of part 1 of IEC 60815 hasbeencirculated as 36/187/CD

The basic principle of selection has changed with respect to IEC60815:1986 in that it is no longer asimple GO/NO-GO process. Thereader of this draft will discover that the information gatheredonthe pollution at the projected site (from IEC 60815-1) is used todetermine a basic creepagedistance, which is then corrected as afunction of the suitability of candidate insulators for the typeofpollution. Other factors, which take into account the influence ofprofile parameters (e.g.diameter, shed spacing etc.), are alsoapplied to this creepage distance.

This guide is applicable to the selection of ceramic and glassinsulators for a.c. systems, and thedetermination of their relevantdimensions, to be used in high voltage systems with respecttopollution.
